Armed Israeli Settlers Detain British Activist in Masafer Yatta, Video Shows Him Grabbed and Taken Away

Footage circulating on social media shows Finn Joughin, a British activist, being grabbed by the arms and led away by armed Israeli settlers in Umm al-Khair, a herding community in Masafer Yatta in the southern occupied West Bank. According to his lawyer, Inbar Shaked Vardi, settlers locked Joughin in a shed for 30 minutes before handing him over to Israeli police.

A British Foreign Office spokesperson said officials from the British Embassy in Tel Aviv have raised the case with Israeli authorities and are seeking further information. No further statement from the Foreign Office has been made public.

Umm al-Khair sits adjacent to the settlement of Carmel and has been the site of repeated demolitions and settler confrontations documented by human rights groups over the past two decades. Masafer Yatta, a cluster of Palestinian herding villages, has faced a sustained Israeli military and settler campaign to displace residents, an effort that intensified after Israel's High Court cleared much of the area for use as a military firing zone.
